Upper Galilee – A Perfect Day Trip

10:00-1:00 PM: After breakfast, before the weather was too hot, we went to Makom b’Abirim to go horseback riding. We met Eyal, the owner who was very friendly and gave us his best pointers on how to enjoy the horses and the ride.

From the moment we met Eyal, we appreciated his outgoing personality, his love for his horses and passion for the work he does. He then took us on a 1ֲ½ hour scenic ride on the area trails. Afterward, we enjoyed coffee and Eyal showed us other activities that he offers on his property. In addition to horseback riding lessons, there are jeep rides, luxury outdoor camping in a hut called a Shepards house complete with plumbing, electricity, and cooking amenities, log cabin country lodging, wine offerings from local wineries and goat cheese products made daily by his wife. You can contact Eyal at [email protected].

1:00-2:00 PM Lunch in the town of Jish at the restaurant called Al Aliyali. This restaurant was very clean and the service was excellent. There is an extensive menu with authentic Middle Eastern food. I recommend the assortments of salads to start and if you like meat, the grilled chicken shishlik (grilled on skewer).

2:00-4:00 PM We headed over to the town of Dalton to see the local Israeli Wineries. We sampled some delicious wines at the Yekev Rimonim (Pomegranate Winery) where all of the wine is made from pomegranates. We also enjoyed the Adir Winery and Dairy which featured wines and a goat cheese dairy. We sampled goat cheese and goat milk ice cream which was delicious and very healthy!

5:00-6:00 PM We drove a short distance to see Mount Adir where there is a memorial for the soldiers who were killed in the 2006 Lebanon War. There is a short uphill climb to the memorial which is built on a large deck that overlooks the Southern villages of Lebanon where the war took place. There are pictures of the land with labels of the surrounding towns, so that as you look out, you can see exactly where each town is located. It is a very special way to remember the fallen soldiers and to view the entire area.

What a Day…

Horseback Riding on the Lebanon border, lunch at a great authtentic Eastern restaurant, and fantastic Wine tours in Dalton. What more can you ask for in a day. Book with my friend and fantastic guide Moshe. He knows the area well and will offer you a great one day private tour.
