Nominated as one of the seven (now eight) wonders of the world, the Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth and the deepest hyper-saline lake in the world.

But why is it called Dead?

Simply because no living thing can survive in it’s super salty waters. See more on Dead Sea Minerals.

But for photographers, the Dead Sea is very much alive. Situated in the Great Rift Valley at the base of the Judean Mountains between Israel and Jordan, it is an awesome sight to see and photograph. The waters exhibit a unique deep turquoise hue which i have never seen before, while the mountains and and desert landscape surrounding the Sea are chalky white. The color combination offers a vivid contrast unique to this area of the world.

Lisa and I have each made several trips to the area and have many personal photos.

Now, let us share some of our favorites with you!

Our Favorite Dead Sea Pictures and Masada Pictures

Millions flock to the Dead Sea from all over the world to enjoy its health benefits and experience its awesome natural beauty. As you descend down the mountain roads into the valley, you can just smell and almost taste the sulfur in the air.

Of course there is not substitute for a visit to Israel, but just in case, we would like to share with you some of our favorite pictures of the Dead Sea and Masada.

We would also invite you to share some of your favoriteswith us.

We hope you have enjoyed our photos of the Dead Sea and Masada. As I said, Lisa and I are always discovering new places and things to photograph and we invite you as our guest to contribute to this page and our main Israel photo gallery as well.

Of course, that is not a substitute for visiting Israel in the near future. With limitless things to do and see, you will find yourself wanting more and more.

If you’re active and an outdoorsy type (like me), there are many other attractions like camel riding, sky diving, Jeep tours, mountain biking and beautiful hiking trails (see Dead Sea tours and attractions for more activities). On the other hand, if you prefer a more pampering visit, you’ll find lots of resort hotels spa treatments, and restaurants to choose from.

Please see our top recommendations for amazing tours, top places to stay, best tour guides and invaluable travel tips to maximize your time and money.
